PITTSBURG'S YEAR-ROUND BASE CAMP

The Buck Rub Story

The Buck Rub Pub was established on October 26, 1989, seating only 36 people. Prior to that the pub was a small convenience store named the Connecticut Lakes Emporium selling live bait, snacks, ice cream and sandwiches.

Although the name “The Buck Rub Pub” has a fun ring to it, there is a great story behind the name. During deer mating season a buck (male deer) will “rub” his antlers on the bark of tree trunks leaving scrapes of antler velvet with his scent on the tree. The buck does this to mark his territory during mating season or “rut” with the hope that a healthy doe will find him interesting. With all the wildlife in the area, this was a very fitting name for the establishment!

Over thirty years later, the Buck Rub Pub has evolved and become a landmark establishment in the Great North Woods and a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Depending on the season, our parking lot is full of snowmobilers, ATVer’s, hunters, fishermen and hikers alike. We hope you stop by the pub during your next visit to Pittsburg to enjoy our lively atmosphere, great food, and amazing staff!
